The story

Every oath is written down somewhere

For thousands of years the god-king Ilmarion the Just has kept the peace across the Oathlands. Now something is changing at the heart of his kingdom, and four rival gods are certain they know who should come next.

Far from the thrones, in the soot-stained iron town of Hearthmoor, a blacksmith named Teiran Vaele has debts to pay. He is about to find out that the fate of the realms and the fate of one small forge are tied by the same old promise.

The seven realms

  • Caelmar: marble and law. Seat of Caelthar, who believes the world must be kept as it was.
  • The Far Waste: empty, untracked country of wind, dust and long silences.
  • Aurendell: a terraced island of pale stone where the god-king keeps court.
  • Elowmere: orchard and river country, home of Sylvaine, god of mercy and harvest.
  • The Hollow Roads: lamplit crossroads, Oriel's country and the Lampwrights'.
  • The Iron Country: hills of forge and coal-smoke. Hearthmoor, where the story begins, sits here.
  • The Drowned Coast: harbor isles of Morvaen and the Tidebound.
